Southampton received a selection boost ahead of their Saturday clash with Burnley that could help them get through tough games ahead against Chelsea, Watford, Aston Villa and Norwich City.

Ralph Hasenhuttl was starved of four players in his win over Leeds United with James Ward-Prowse (suspended), Jack Stephens (hamstrings), Will Smallbone (knee) and Che Adams (muscle) and sidelined.

But the last on that list Adams returned to training this week and is expected to be back in the running for Burnley’s visit from Sean Dyche.

Adams was injured while on international duty with Scotland, returning home to England’s south coast early to best prepare him for his return.

Che Adams is back in training with Southampton ahead of Saturday’s clash with Burnley

Speaking only of the striker last week, Hasenhuttl said: “Che Adams has a muscle injury, it’s not too serious but for [the Leeds] match, he’s definitely out. “

And now he’s back in training as he prepares to fight for his place in the starting XI after his replacement Armando Broja finds his way to the net during his absence.

The Saints will go without Ward-Prowse for their games against Burnley and Chelsea, with the midfielder due to return to Watford later this month.

Stephens also remains on the sidelines with his hamstring issue as Smallbone moves closer to his comeback after clocking a full ninety minutes for the B Saints on Monday afternoon.
