Shane McGowan admits to selling drugs linked to infamous gangsters
Shane McGowan has revealed that he was dealing drugs linked to members of the notorious Kray crime family as a schoolboy.
The Pogues singer, who celebrated his 64th birthday on Christmas Day, revealed in a licensed new biography of his life that he was part of a “drug distribution ring” at a playground linked to Charlie Kray , older brother of notorious gangster twins Ronnie and Reggie.
The Kray twins and the extended family were one of London’s East End’s most prominent gangsters. Twins Ronnie and Reggie, who became celebrities in their own right, were sentenced to life in prison for murder before their deaths in 1995 and 2000 respectively.
Shane’s licensed biography revealed that the drug distribution network operated while he was in his public school in Westminster, before being kicked out 14 months after starting school.
‘I was hanging out with the other guys in the drug trafficking organization, ”Shane said. “It was a small organization with a lot of clients, and we kept it within the school or friends of the people at the school.
‘But they could come and buy a lot and we knew they were selling to people we hadn’t met, and the school had planned that, ”he continued.
Shane said he was taking orders from other students and his friends and that he would source drugs from people who were “Charlie Kray associates.”
When asked what he would sell, the singer said some of the more serious drugs included ‘heroin, cocaine, acid, mescaline, Nepalese temple balls, stuff like that… They became privileged customers and I befriended them.
Shane also said that during his teenage years he nicknamed himself “the Minister of Torture”, the namesake given because he interrogated other students by methods such as pinching their nipples or putting nettles. in their underwear.

‘If they wanted to get any information from someone, they would sit next to them and I did the interrogation and I could put a cigarette or two in his face, ”he said. “There were a lot of different things you could do, like squeeze his nipples and you could throw nettles in his pants and rub them until he screamed.”
Shane’s Biography, written by Richard Bells but licensed by the rocker himself, tells the story of Shane’s teenage years, his rise to stardom with The Pogues, and his alcohol and drug addiction that almost killed him.
