SEA Games: Fencing Team Sam Catantan Wins Silver in Women’s Team Foil

MANILA, Philippines — After winning gold in individual foil, Sam Catantan led the Philippine fencing team to silver in the women’s team foil at the 31st Southeast Asian Games on Tuesday at the Palace of Hanoi indoor games in Vietnam.

Catantan, Maxine Esteban, Wilhemina Lozada and Justine Gail Tinio lost to Singapore in the final, 33-28, settling for a silver medal.

The foursome unleashed their dominance in the semi-finals with a 45-26 rout of Thailand earlier.

Esteban, Catantan, Lozada and Tinio finished third in the 2019 edition, sharing bronze with Thailand.

Two days ago, Catantan won gold in women’s individual foil.

Meanwhile, the Philippine men’s epee team was ousted by Thailand, 45-42, in the elimination round.
