Resumption of activities in small groups in high schools, JC, DIH

SINGAPORE – Secondary schools, colleges and institutes of higher education (IHL) will be allowed to organize activities in sub-groups of up to five people while being masked starting Wednesday, November 10.

The Ministry of Education (MOE) said in a press release on Monday that the resumption of activities would also apply to secondary / senior sections of special education schools (SPED), as well as to the Millennia Institute.

“It is in the perspective that our student population over 12 in schools and IHL have high vaccination rates, which puts us in a good position to take over more elements of school life, with guarantees appropriate, ”the ministry said.

In addition, these educational institutions will pilot the resumption of team sports formats to allow a group of 10 fully vaccinated people (including players, coach and officials) to play together.

As part of this pilot project, participants will be required to produce a valid negative rapid antigen test (ART) result on site before each match. The MOE will review the results of these pilot projects to prepare for the intensification of these sports activities next year.

More elements of school life to resume from January

Starting in January, the Department of Education will continue to resume more elements of school life for high schools, JCs and the Millennia Institute, including activities that have been suspended or discontinued previously.

These include the Flag Raising Ceremony, Assemblies, Learning Trips, Extracurricular Activities, National School Games and Singapore Youth Festival.

Likewise, IHL will also seek to bring back more aspects of campus life, such as more in-person classes and student activities, and larger scale IHL sporting events.

Arrangements for the opening day of the school next year

The Ministry of Education also said that only kindergarten 1 children in MOE preschools and primary 1 students, including primary / junior sections of SPED schools, will show up to their schools for the first day. of school on January 4th of next year.

A parent / guardian will be authorized to accompany his child / neighborhood K1 or P1 to his new school to help him better adapt to the new environment and new routines.

K2 students and P2 to P6 students will return to school on January 5th. This is to better facilitate the safe return of students at the start of the school year and to ensure that safe management measures can be implemented effectively.
