Here’s our rundown of the public nonprofit events and activities we’ve been told about in the Southeast for the month of May!
Portland Chamber Music performs in Woodstock: Portland Chamber Music, a nonprofit music group, will perform tonight at 7 p.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church, 4033 Woodstock Boulevard. The second half of the show will pay tribute to Ukrainian composers. The concert is free, but donations are welcome and will help defray the cost of the performance.MAY 7
Annual Woodstock Neighborhood Plant Sale: This annual plant sale raises funds to maintain the Woodstock Community Center as part of a 2004 agreement to keep the center open. At this year’s sale, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at the Community Center (5905 SE 43rd Avenue, half a block north of Woodstock Boulevard), there will be perennials, herbs , vegetable sprouts, ground covers, succulents, ornamental grasses, houseplants and shrubs.
MAY 14“Gathering in the Garden” at Eastmoreland today: The Eastmoreland Garden Club is presenting more than its annual plant sale today – this year it’s a celebration of gardening and a springtime event for Southeast Portland. In addition to plant and tree sales, there will be live music all the time from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., local garden vendors, unique, new and used garden art, and the Rose Society will sharpen hand pruners weather permitting (one to one customer). A free activity for children is included. Additionally, members of local non-profit organizations representing green spaces in the Southeast will provide information and answer questions. It will take place from 10 to 2 today at Eastmoreland Garden Park, SE Bybee Boulevard at 27th Avenue, and is co-sponsored by the Eastmoreland Neighborhood Association, with support from Southeast Uplift.
Mount.Tabor Art Walk returns, today and tomorrow: The Mt. Tabor Art Walk is back after the pandemic break! Now in its 15th year, this juried art exhibition and sale returns today and tomorrow, featuring 36 talented neighborhood artists at 21 locations. Free entry! Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday. Preview the art and download a map from the official site: www.mtaborartwalk.com – you will see quality visual art and meet artists in their studios and homes. A variety of media are represented, including painting, ceramics, sculpture, photography, prints, metal arts, photography, glass, jewelry, book arts, mixed media, and mosaics.Folk music concert tonight in the Reed district: The nonprofit Portland Folk Music Society presents, in concert, “The Texicana Mamas” tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Reedwood Friends Church, 2901 SE Steele Street. Doors open at 7 a.m. Tickets are $25 for adults, $12 for children 12-18; under 12 free.
