HI announces probable base squad for women’s hockey team
Hockey India on Friday announced a probable new base squad for the senior women’s squad which will take part in many major international tournaments this year.
The group was selected following selection trials held at the Sports Authority of India, Bengaluru for a group of 60 who were called up on the basis of their performance in various national level events.
”It’s time for us to start from scratch and plan for the future. We have grown over the last year with our experiences in Tokyo and we must continue to develop and grow in the years to come, in anticipation of Paris 2024,” said the head coach of the women’s team. While an 18-member Indian team, led by Savita, travels to Muscat for the upcoming Asian Women’s Hockey Cup, the remaining players from the core group will remain in camp and continue training for matches in the FIH Hockey Pro League to be held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha next month.
“The upcoming camp is important for us to recognize players who are ready to show their skills on the biggest stages, and also to work on areas where we need to improve,” Schopman said.
