February 26 – Job fair in Waterford Oaks

An Oakland County favorite, Waterford Oaks Waterpark, is set to reopen after a two-year hiatus. This popular recreation destination is home to Michigan’s first wave pool and a children’s water playground.

Plans to reopen the water park in 2021 have been scrapped due to a lack of staff. Oakland County Parks and Recreation (OCPR) is making a major effort to recruit part-time seasonal employees, especially lifeguards, which is essential for the operations of its 14 parks this coming season.

“Waterford Oaks Water Park has provided countless hours of fun and lasting family memories for generations. Oakland County Parks and Recreation is committed to bringing this popular and treasured attraction back, but we need your help to make it happen. Please help publicize our job opportunities at the park this summer,” said OCPR Director Chris Ward.

The Oakland County Board of Commissioners recently approved a starting salary increase for parks lifeguards to $15.35. Lifeguard candidates must be able to swim and receive training including water rescue techniques with CPR, first aid, AED and oxygen administration. Employees will receive a new bonus of $300 after completing training and a minimum work period.

“We are thrilled to welcome the public back to more refreshing fun and water adventures for the whole family at Waterford Oaks Water Park this summer,” said Waterford Oaks Park Supervisor Mike Boyd. “Working in our parks is a great way to serve the community and gain valuable experience. Please stop by our next job fair or park office and apply to join our team. »
